First week
EXPERIMENTS
Science and math theme
7/8 the grade
Walk on pool video - ask the following question before viewing video
Picture a pool full of water, do you think if you add one substance to it, you would be able to walk on it without falling in?
The majority of the students said no. I hear things like ice, jello
Then I referred to the color of the water…white
It is something white
I want you to watch the entire video and see what happens at the end
The cornstarch mixture you made is called “non-Newtonian” since its viscosity also depends on the force applied to the liquid or how fast an object is moving through the liquid.
While watching the video, I ask if its something they would like to try
Then another video where cornstarch and water is made in a container and shows someone playing with the content and how the solution is manipulated in the person’s hands
The next class we talked about the physical change of the two substances and that water is a soluble liquid –
We also talked about the ratio – 2 to 1 / two parts cornstarch one part water
I also asked them to think about what they started to picture in their minds when I began with the first questions….picture a pool
I explained to them that everyone in class would picture a different of pool
No one would imagine in the same way
Then I talked about imagination and how important it is to use and develop your imagination
This is a physical reaction
The next class we watch another video
Ferro fluid on Scientific Tuesday
This experiment was similar to the first as it was mixed by only two ingredients
We listed similarities and differences of the two experiments
Imagination
Interest
Can I try that
GRADE 4 -5-6 Chose books in Library and read silently
GRADE pre-K – 3
Goldisocks and the Libearians
Read book
How did each bear feel when they saw their things being touched by someone else?
How did goldisocks feel when she saw the three bears?
What do you think happened next?
Who are the characters of this book?
To dismiss, go to each child individually and Ask each child which character they would want to be ----- when they answer…papa bear, you say ok papa bear get in line and go to next child until each child answers.
